The Gods Look Down..
The gods look down on the world they have created, assessing the beings that have since populated the world and built a mighty civilization. It has been ages since the gods departed this world, and the golden age of the gods and their time, and have since been forgotten, and largely relegated into myth. Nobody worships the gods anymore. The gods disapprove of what they see. The beings have no idea what is about to befall them, for the wrath of the gods is mighty. This is not the first time that the world has been cleansed of its people...

Mute Testament
The portal stood out, a bright blue light among a ruined landscape, ravaged and destroyed by war, a mute testament to the conflict and death that the former masters of the land had wrought upon themselves. The once mighty city, now a desolate shell and tomb for an untold number of former inhabitants whose skeletons lie trapped within it. At night the ruins gave off a soft radioactive glow that could be seen for miles.
The traveler gazed upon this landscape and sighed heavily. Once again, he stepped through the portal, ready for whatever unknown world awaited him on the other side.

Truth in death
As her hand lightly brushed across the worn gravestone, feeling its surface, she read the worn, mossy surface of its face. She finally realized the truth; she was dead, and had been all this time...

Angel.
I imagine her as an Angel, walking in an abandoned graveyard, on a crisp, clear October night, bathed in light from a full moon overhead, surrounded by a foggy mist that almost glows. The look on her face is of eternal sadness and despair. She is crying in silence, forever locked in whatever went on in her life that made her so. She wails in sorrow, knowing a sadness and despair that I can only imagine in my worst nightmares.
Her gown is gray, like the foggy mist that she is enveloped in. Her wings are black. I see her, looking at everything and seeing nothing. Walking amongst the gravestones of that long abandoned graveyard, I watch as she moves along silently. I cannot help but wonder what happened to make her this way, to lock her in such sadness forever? Did she lose someone close to her? Husband? Child? Did she commit suicide? Did she die an untimely death, a life full of hopes and dreams now forever sought after in vain?
All these questions will forever remain unanswered.
She drifts silently in the long abandoned graveyard. Eternally sad.
